(1991)
Producers: Sammo Hung Kam-Bo, Lam Ching-Ying
A deaf woman (Nina Li) feels indebted to a triad boss (Tsui Kam-Kong) from saving her from a life of prostitution. However, she is saved, unintentionally by a young policeman (Ngai Sing) during a violent attack where the building she was in was burnt down. At first they hate each other, but are forced together by mutual fear and persecution. The deaf woman is torn apart by her divided loyalties, while a deaf hitman (Lam Ching-Ying) makes no secret of his love for her. The plot in this film is a little muddled (esp. the beginning) but soon it manages to even itself out. Only thing that annoyed me considerably was the lack of chemistry between the two mismatched leads-it felt that they hated each other's guts, even in the parts where love was supposed to flow from. Sammo only has a small part in this film, unfortunately, while Lam Ching-Ying for once refreshingly is not a Taoist, and his brooding style brought some class to an otherwise standard man-loves-woman fare.
A just average film. -Cissi-
